Through the Years
A look back at a century of Grandview Golf Course.
1920 – Grandview opened as a private club with nine holes and a clubhouse that still serves as our home base today.
1933 – The Great Depression brought hardship, and the club entered bankruptcy. It was then purchased by the Waring Family — Fred (a nationally known band and choral director), his brother Tom, and sisters Dolly and Helen.
Helen Waring Martin lovingly operated the course for fifty years, shaping its character and community spirit.
1935 –Grandview expanded to a full 18-hole golf course, offering an enjoyable challenge to local golfers and visitors alike.
1976 – Well known and well-loved golf pro, Mark “Hod” Chronister led the course as golf pro and head greens superintendent. 40 years later, his son, Rod, would take over his role in caring for the greens, and his grandson, Jordan, would become one of the owners of the course.
1984 – After decades of dedication, Mrs. Martin sold the club to a group of investors, forming Grandview, Inc. and establishing the course as Grandview Golf Course and Banquet Center.
1999 – A major remodeling project modernized the facilities — introducing the Tap-In Pub and Grille, expanding the Pro Shop, upgrading restrooms, and building a kitchen equipped for banquets and events up to 100 guests.
2016 – Grandview celebrated its 96th anniversary with a full renovation and the exciting addition of BrewVino, our on-site upscale restaurant and bar. BrewVino brought a fresh energy to the course, offering guests an inviting place to dine, relax, and enjoy beautiful patio views overlooking the greens.
2025 – Today, Grandview remains a welcoming destination for golfers, families, and friends. With a blend of history and hospitality, we’re proud to carry forward a York tradition — one that’s as much about community as it is about the game of golf.
Come play a round, share a meal at BrewVino, and be part of the story that’s been growing here for more than 100 years.
